The 'Kristin Smart' Memorial Park at Dinosaur Caves
One of the very very few bright spots for the Smart family since Kristin vanished is the celebration of her life that is going to take place on June 14th in Shell Beach, Ca.
The city of Shell Beach, Ca is honoring Kristin's memory by making her a centerpiece of an Oceanside Park that the city is developing along its beautiful coastline.

PISMO BEACH
A bench will be dedicated to the memory of Kristin Smart in the Park at Dinosaur Caves, it was announced Saturday before memorial services for the Cal Poly student from Napa, missing since May, 1996.
The 12-acre city park will include 10,000 feet of walking paths, native plants, a contemplative botanical garden and a pagoda. The pagoda will include a bench on mosaic tile, coupled with an etching of Kristin looking toward the ocean, said Marc Ledbed, president of the Dinosaur Park Preservation Society.
"This will be a symbol of the beauty and frailty of youth," Ledbed announced during the memorial service in Arroyo Grande.
"The only thing that could possibly complement the park is the beauty and spirit of Kristin Smart," he said. Contributions to the bench project are tax deductible and can be mailed to Dinosaur Caves Preservation Society, 1435 Shell Beach Road, Pismo Beach, 93449.

Missing Napa girl's life remembered
By DOUG ERNST

ARROYO GRANDE
The "real" Kristin Smart came home Saturday.
Not in person, but in spirit. Her mother Denise explained to a memorial service crowd at St. John's Lutheran Church that at various times over the past five years she and others searching for the missing 19-year-old concocted a "runaway" theory, hoping that she was alive.
"We stopped looking for the real Kristin," her mom said. As a result, "part of her true spirit left us.
"We are sorry for ever doubting you," she added. Speaker after speaker at Saturday's service recalled Kristin's true spirit. She was remembered by the Rev. Mark Holmerud as "a spark of energy infused with grace." She was described by friends and family as a vibrant, vivacious dreamer and adventurer who inspired others to believe they could also make dreams come true.
Longtime family friend Todd Murphy read a letter from one of Kristin's friends. "Kristin is a wide, slow smile; a low, confident voice; a compassionate smile; a lanky walk. She is intensive sunshine; sparkling, brown eyes; the sunset on the beach. She is overwhelmingly friendly," her friend wrote. Kristin's former high school vice principal described her as "tall and beautiful, but natural and reserved."
Another friend said of Kristin: "She loved to swim, and she would always win. But she never gloated. Kristin liked you for who you were."
A fellow counselor who worked with Kristin in Hawaii remembered her generosity and her kindness toward others.
A high school teacher likened her to a sun worshipper "who swam with dolphins and picked mangoes and papaya." He noted she was known for her world travels, to the Amazon, for example; and for her "permanent tan. "She inspired us to see the world in an enlightened and different way, and she had an effervescent smile," he recalled.
Another family friend said Kristin was "a reflection of the tremendous love of her family."
Her father, Stan, who is an administrator with the Napa Valley Unified School District, thanked many people for helping in the ongoing search for the truth about what really happened to Kristin.
Her body has not been found. Investigators say the lead suspect is Paul Flores, but no charges have ever been filed.
"We've worked hard to discover the truth, and we'd like to see justice, but I don't want to take away from today," Smart said.
"We really miss Kristin," he said.
"Her hugs, her smiles. We were so fortunate to have her as a child, even though it was for a short time."
Said Denise Smart: "Kristin -- we called her 'Scritter' -- is never far from our hearts, and she will never be forgotten. She was a lover of life, a dreamer, always believing there was an adventure around the corner. She knew she was loved unconditionally.
"Thank you all for keeping her spirit alive and memories of her in your hearts." Stan Smart thanked law enforcement officials, naming San Luis Obispo Sheriff Patrick Hedges and Napa Police officer George Ulitin.
He thanked psychics, attorneys, the media, television show producers and politicians, including Rep. Mike Thompson, D-St. Helena, who worked as a State Senator to pass the Kristin Smart Campus Safety Act of 1998, requiring state university police to cooperate more fully with other police agencies. Hedges told the crowd the sheriff's department would not give up on solving the case.
